Yoga for Athletes

Yoga can be beneficial for a whole range of competitive and recreational sports for injury prevention, strength, focus, breathing efficiency and agility.  I design classes focussed on the specific sport, and for what is needed in that part of the training cycle.  I have taught swimmers, runners, footballers & ice hockey players so far.

Personal Experience

I used to swim a lot when I was younger.  From then on, I was always drawn to be active, from ultra distance to marathons, triathlon, parkrun. I notice that my personal yoga practice keeps my core and shoulders strong, my spine long, and generally I feel more integrated in my body when I do other sports.

Yoga for Swimmers

I teach the Teddington Swimming Club Performance Squad a 45-minute yoga session at different times in their training cycle, generally in the weeks before a big meet.  The sessions focus on  streamlining, shoulder, neck, hip & hamstring flexibility, specific strength (especially shoulder stability and torso strength), body awareness, increasing lung capacity, breathwork and focus.
